RULES EFFECTIVE FROM 1996 SPRING
  1. Moore than one team may be permitted to climb Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) by each separate route in one season.
  2. A royalty of US$ 50,000 has been fixed for Sagarmatha for a team consisting of 7 members. The team may include 5 more members provided if it pays extra US$ 10,000 for each additional member would be granted three months visas. Additional US$ 20,000 will have to paid by the team willing to scale Sagarmahta by normal South East Ridge route.
  3. In all region including, Khumbu, an expedition team can have up to 7 members for the minimum royalty, and 5 more members for the additional royalty.
  4. The team already permitted to scale Sagarmatha will have to pay US$ 10,000 if it intends to change the ascent route. Ii will have to pay additional US$ 20,000 if it intends to change the ascent route too normal South Ridge route.
  5. For peaks other than Sagarmatha, the team will have to pay additional 25% of the royalty in US$ Dollars to change the ascent route.
  6. Expedition tem must complete all necessary administrative formalities and procedures in order to send back the garbage of the expedition team to their respective countries, after the completion of the expedition. Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation will take necessary monetary deposit from them, which will be refunded after the dispatch of garbage from Nepal.

The ministry of tourism has fixed the price of the deposit for the management of garbage's by each mountaineering team who tries to climb any peak in Khumbu region are as follows.

THE GARBAGES ARE DIVIDED INTO THREE CATEGORIES :
1. Disposable in the Khumbu Region which are incinerable and biodegradable :

  1. Toilet paper
  2. Cardboard boxes and paper waste
  3. Bamboo basket and mats
  4. cotton and jute bags
  5. Spoiled food
  6. Dead bodies

2. Recycling materials:
  1. Tins, bottles jars and plastic containers
  2. Plastic and foil bags and sheeting's
  3. Reusable cooking gas cylinders
  4. Gas Canisters
3. Re-exportable goods
  1. Used oxygen bottles
  2. Used batteries
  3. Climbing equipment's such as tents, personal gear etc.

Disposable goods should be brought down from the base and be disposed in the presence of chairman or ward member of the concerned village development committee. Similarly, recycling materials should be brought back to Kathmandu and handover to prescribed agency for recycling. the re-exportable goods should be dispatched for Nepal to their respective countries and take back the deposited amount.

The liaison officer will be responsible to enforce the above mentioned procedures. Similarly the leader and the headman will be liable to perform the above mentioned, task in cooperation with the liaison officer.
