On this exciting high altitude trek, we'll enjoy the pleasures of Khumbu-Sherpa hospitality and magnificent scenery-along with the challenges of a mini-climbing expedition. Island Peak (6189m.) or Imja Tse as it is known locally, is a minor Himalayan peak in the Chhukung valley of Eastern Khumbu. We'll begin the trek in Jiri, following the classic expedition route through Solu-Khumbu to Namche Bazaar. Here, we'll leave the we''-tramped trails behind and trek to Gokyo, a series of stunning high altitude lakes and magnificent glaciers. Turning Eastward, the climb to Chhuguma Pass (5460mm.) will help acclimatize for higher elevations. On the other side, we'll skirt the Khumbu glacier to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar before crossing

a second, more difficult Pass, Kongma La (5510m.) We'll now approach Island Peak Base Camp where those who are above may attempt the summit, usually involving one night on the mountain. Others can explore the glaciers of upper Chhukung valley. We'll return through Thyangboche to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
